大分市内の磯崎建築を紹介します

2019年プリツカー賞の受賞が決定した大分市出身の建築家 磯崎新 氏。磯崎氏が設計した、市内の5つの建築物を紹介します。

※プリツカー賞:「建築界のノーベル賞」とも呼ばれ、アメリカのハイアット財団が世界的に優れた建築家に贈る賞。日本人としては、丹下健三氏、安藤忠雄氏、坂茂氏など7人が受賞し、磯崎氏が8人目。

Buildings in Oita City Designed by World Famous Architect Arata Isozaki

The following five buildings in Oita City were designed by the renowned architect Arata Isozaki. Isozaki was born in Oita City and was awarded with the 2019 Pritzker Architecture Prize.

※The Pritzker Architecture Prize: Known as the Nobel Prize of architecture, the Pritzker Prize is awarded by the Hyatt Foundation to architects who have made significant contributions in their field. Isozaki is the 8th Japanese architect to win this prize. Other Japanese recipients include Kenzo Tange, Tadao Ando, and Shigeru Ban.

アートプラザ（旧 県立大分図書館）

県立大分図書館として建設され、日本建築学会賞を受賞。その後図書館の移設に伴い、市がアートプラザとして再生し、活用している。磯崎氏の代表作として、多くの建築ファンが訪れている。

Art Plaza (Former Oita Prefectural Library)

Former Oita Prefectural Library building. Isozaki was awarded with the Architectural Institute of Japan Design Prize for this design. The City of Oita renamed it as the Art Plaza after the Prefectural Library was relocated to another part of the city. Many architecture buffs visit this building as it embodies classic Isozaki design.

豊の国情報ライブラリー

15m四方の大きな吹き抜けの上に円盤が溶接されたエントランスホールや「百柱の間」と呼ばれる100本の柱が林立する大閲覧室など、特徴的な設計がなされている。

Toyonokuni Information Library

This building is known for its distinct design that includes an entrance hall with a disk welded to the ceiling of the square stairwell that measures 15 meters in each direction as well as an open-stack reading room known as the "Hall of 100 Columns" (Hyakuchu no Ma).

大分市情報学習センター（旧 大分市視聴覚センター）

2つの半円筒形のヴォールト（天井構造）が並行して配置され、その接合部にトップライトが設けられている。入口から2階のエントランスに伸びるスロープも特徴の一つ。

Oita Information Learning Center (Former Oita City Audiovisual Center)

Two barrel vaulted roofs are built parallel to each other. Light is introduced only through skylights located between the parallel vaults and the high window on the end wall. One of its distinct features is the slope that extends from the 1st floor entrance to the 2nd floor entryway.

岩田学園

大分市内に現存する最古の磯崎建築。1964年に建てられた1号館・2号館に加え、1985年には体育館と学生寮も磯崎氏の設計によって増築されている。

Iwata Gakuen

This is the oldest existing building designed by Isozaki in Oita City. In addition to the school buildings "Ichigokan" and "Nigokan" built in 1964, Isozaki designed both a gymnasium and dormitory that were constructed in 1985.

大分富士見カントリー倶楽部ハウス

同時期に竣工した北九州市立中央図書館と同様に、半円筒形のヴォールトが用いられ、上から見ると「？（クエスチョンマーク）」の形状をしている。磯崎氏が「建築の解体」を掲げ、近代主義から離れつつあった時代の代表作の一つ。

Oita Fujimi Country Club House

Completed at the same time as the Kitakyushu Central Library, another of Isozaki's designs, the Fujimi Country Club House utilizes a barrel vaulted roof that forms the shape of a question mark when looking down on it from above. After publishing Kenchiku no Kaitai (The Destruction of Modern Architecture), Isozaki began moving away from modernism which is reflected in the design of this building.

建築家 磯崎新 氏

1931年大分市生まれ。1961年東京大学数物系大学院建築学博士課程在籍後、1963年磯崎新アトリエを設立。東京大学、UCLA、ハーバード大学、コロンビア大学など国内外の客員教授、また多くの国際コンペの審査員を務める。市内には現在、磯崎建築としてアートプラザ（旧 県立大分図書館）、岩田学園、大分市情報学習センター、大分富士見カントリー倶楽部ハウス、豊の国情報ライブラリーがある。

Arata Isozaki, Architect

Born in Oita City, Oita Prefecture in 1931. After enrollment of a Doctorate course in Architecture at the University of Tokyo, Isozaki established Isozaki Arata & Associates in 1963. Isozaki has lectured at the University of Tokyo, UCLA, Harvard University and Columbia University as a visiting professor and has also served as a judge in many international architecture competitions. Buildings designed by Isozaki in Oita City include the Art Plaza (Former Oita Prefectural Library), Iwata Gakuen, Oita Information Learning Center, Oita Fujimi Country Club House, and Toyonokuni Information Library.
