Childbirth

1. Hello Baby Home Visits

Here in Oita City, "Hello Baby Home Visits" are provided to every household with a baby 4 months old or younger. The visits are carried out by public health nurses and midwives certified to give childcare advice.

2. Infant and Toddler Checkups

Oita City provides babies who are registered residents with a 3-4 month checkup, a 7-8 month checkup, a 9-11 month checkup, an 18 month checkup, and a 3 year checkup. Expense is free.
You will receive checkup forms by mail. Please bring the forms as well as the Maternal and Child Health Handbook on the day you come for the checkup.

3. Childcare Consultation Telephone Service

(1)  Health Care Division, Oita City Health Care Center provides the following phone service for childcare consultation.

(2) Consultation regarding childcare is available either in a sit-down interview setting or by telephone.

Parenting and Child Care Information

1. Daycare Centers

(1) Daycare Centers: Daycare centers are for the children of working parents, parents who are recovering from an illness, or are unable to care for their child for other reasons. Daycare centers will accept children as young as 3 months old up to right before their primary school enrollment.

(2) Kindergarten: Kindergartens are educational institutes that care for children 3 years of age up to right before their primary school enrollment.

(3) Certified Daycare Centers (Private centers certified as meeting Oita City standards): Certified daycare centers provide both childcare and kindergarten functions. Target age range depends on facilities.

2. Niko Niko Room

Niko Niko Room accepts children over 18 months old who are mentally or physically challenged. In addition to daycare services, they also support parents in the form of childcare/lifestyle advice and counseling.

3. After School Childcare "Jido Ikusei Club"

Children in elementary school in Oita City who are alone at home after school because their parents are at work during the day, etc. can be admitted to after school childcare called "Jido Ikusei Club" so that they can stay safe. It is open Monday to Friday during after school hours and school vacations. Each club has different hours. Monthly fees are \4,500 per child with snacks being a separate expense.
